Demographics of Horton Township |
|
The Township of Horton is the only rural municipality in Renfrew County that did not restructure through the Provincial Amalgamation process promoted by the Provincial Government in the late 1990's. Horton Township is proud that this accomplishment was realized through proper planning and financial controls. Horton Township surrounds the Town of Renfrew on three sides and borders the Ottawa River. 2500 residents have made Horton Township their choice for permanent residence. In addition, the cottage population increases our population in the summer months to over 3,000. Horton Township is fortunate in having significant waterfront and rolling hills which provide many scenic vistas to travellers and the local public. Tourism is quickly gaining popularity. Our municipality is in close proximity to both wilderness and city attractions as it is only an hour away from the eastern boundary of Algonquin Park and an hour away from Ottawa, our Nation's Capital. With the completion of the Trans Canada Highway (417) to Arnprior, Silicon Valley north will only be 45 minutes away for commuters. The planning process continues to 4-lane Highway 17 into the Township in the near future. |
